Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“Bring me a pen!” Jerome demanded.
“Mr. Miller, Mr. Diego is still waiting for you to sign the contract. Time is running out,” Mike reminded him in a hushed voice.
The Miller Group had been diligently negotiating a crucial collaboration for an extended period, and Mikayla nearly jeopardized it.
Jerome ignored Mikayla and hastily walked toward the exit with Mike.
“Jerome!” Mikayla chased after him.
“Get her away from me!”
Several bodyguards surrounded Mikayla once Jerome gave the order.
Aware of Jerome’s workaholic nature and the unlikelihood of him having time for a divorce today, she shouted, “See you at City Hall tomorrow at 9:00 am!”
Jerome got into the waiting car and promptly left.
Mikayla pondered whether he would show up but quickly ascertained that he would, as Jerome was eager to be rid of her.
Mikayla felt relieved at that thought.
Back at the villa, she logged into her long–neglected email account. There were several job invitations from investment banks.
Instead of instantly trashing them like she used to, she opened each one. Unfortunately, all the offers had expired.
She forfeited an opportunity from a prestigious investment bank, an institution coveted by numerous financial elites, just to cater to the selfish whims of Jerome.
Filled with regret, she vowed to plan her life more meticulously to avoid being blinded by romantic relationships.
After sending out a few job applications, Mikayla thought about the impending divorce with Jerome the next day and felt relieved.
She shut down the computer and began packing. Once the divorce certificate was in her hands, she could leave immediately.
As she was enthusiastically packing, Amy walked in.
“Madam, why are you packing? Are you going on a trip?”
Amy was a temporary help hired by Jerome. To prevent the estate’s staff from reporting their situation to Wanda, Jerome didn’t allow the household staff from the old mansion
to come.
Although Mikayla had a bad temper and was often troublesome in her past life, Amy had been relatively diligent in her duties.
However, due to Mikayla’s suspicion that Kylie had bribed Amy, there had been some tension.
“Amy, I’m moving out tomorrow,” Mikayla explained. “You’ve put up with a lot from me, and I apologize for any trouble I may have caused you.” Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
Amy was surprised by the unexpected apology from Mikayla, who was typically resentful and irritable. She appeared to have undergone significant changes since the day she woke up following her leap off the building.
She replied, “Madam, I haven’t taken anything to heart. By the way, why are you moving out?”
Mikayla said frankly, “I plan to divorce Jerome, and we’ve set an appointment to finalize the procedure tomorrow.”
Amy was once again caught off guard.
Even though she had taken care of Mikayla for less than a year, she could clearly see Mikayla’s feelings for Jerome.
Mikayla would go to great lengths to please Jerome.
Since Jerome loved art, she filled the house with famous paintings.
Since Jerome loved books, she placed them everywhere, even in the garden.
Everything from food to clothing to daily items was tailored to Jerome’s preferences.
Yet, Mikayla was discussing divorce now.
“Madam, you’ve always loved Mr. Miller. Why do you suddenly want a divorce?” Amy
couldn’t understand.
Mikayla smiled. “Love can change, and sometimes it’s better to let each other go.”
Amy still found it unbelievable and was about to say something when she noticed Jerome in the hallway.
“Sir, you’re back. Have you eaten? I can make something for you.”
Jerome replied coldly, “No need. I just came back to get some documents.”
As he prepared to head to the study, Mikayla stopped him. “Wait a moment.
Amy quickly excused herself, saying, “You two talk. I’ll leave.”
Once Amy was gone, Jerome indifferently said, “I’m busy. You better have something important to say.”
“Don’t worry, I’m busy too and don’t have time for idle talk.
Mikayla retrieved the divorce agreement from the cluttered desk and approached Jerome.
“Spare me a minute. Sign this agreement so we can go get the divorce certificate tomorrow.”
Jerome glanced at Mikayla. Earlier, he had overheard Amy asking Mikayla why she wanted a divorce. At first, he didn’t believe Mikayla would divorce him.
But when Mikayla casually mentioned that love can change, her tone was too relaxed to
be an act.
The current Mikayla holding the divorce agreement seemed calm. She was dressed casually compared to her typical polished appearance.
That made him wonder if she had truly changed. He took the divorce agreement with a
mix of belief and doubt.
The contents were straightforward. Mikayla wanted nothing, just a clean break.
Her elegant signature had been penned at the bottom of the document.
“If there are no issues, go ahead and sign,” Mikayla urged.
Jerome looked into her eyes once more and asked, “Are you genuinely willing to divorce?
“Of course! The sooner, the better!” Mikayla insisted. “Do you have a pen? If not, I can
get one for you!”
Jerome didn’t immediately agree. Instead, he returned the divorce agreement to Mikayla. “What’s the meaning of this? Are there any other issues?”
