CHAPTER 43
Superman's Lois
"Protect yourself, you know what I'm saying?' Glana stressed the first word.
'I know, and I will. Thank you, Glana. You're a good friend."
"You have a good head on your shoulders. You know what you're doing, so I'm not going to nag. Anyhoo, he seems to treat you nice enough." "What?"
"Last night, the way he showed up with guns blazing, rescuing the damsel in distress in the nick of time. and swooping her up in his arms. With a cape, he could've been Superman. You know how much I love that scene where Superman saved Lois from falling from a helicopter. Just...oh wow."
"Wait wait, slow down. What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about you and Austyn. Don't you remember? He saved you from the lecherous hands of Geoffrey before the man could... Speaking of which, the lecher's gone. A co-worker called me this morning. Geoffrey's fired. Not just fired, the boss gave him a good beating before canning his ass. Boss also told Geoffrey to leave town and never come back I heard the fatso's related to the boss. He wouldn't have been fired if Austyn hadn't intervened, right?"
Kira's head was swimming. "What? Who's...who's Geoffrey?"
"You really don't remember?"
'I really don't."
'Oh I'm definitely not taking you drinking again. Your blackout's scary."
'Please tell me what happened."
Giana filled her in on last night, about how Geoffrey tried to grope her, how Austyn came to her rescue, and how he broke the manager's wrist.
Kira listened to the story in a daze.
Austyn, her two-timing husband, saved her?
Why didn't he say anything?
Kira would never have known about this if Giana didn't tell her.
She felt...
She didn't know what she felt.
Touched?
Sure.
Who wouldn't be?
But Kira soon reminded herself not to overthink it.
Maybe it had nothing to do with her.
Austyn was intensely territorial.
He couldn't stand having someone else covet his possessions.
And Kira belonged to him-at least that was how he saw it.
He broke the manager's wrist because the man had touched 'Austyn's wife," who just happened to be Kira.
"Stop seeing things that are not there," Kira warned herself before that feeling of gratitude morphed into something else
He might be Superman, but she was not Lois Lane.
'Sorry to keep you waiting, Lexi trotted over. 'Something I ate at lunch just didn't agree with me."
'It's all right.'
'Come on, I'll drive."NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
On the way, Lexi briefed Kira about Revency.
The entertainment and media company arrived on the scene just a couple of years ago, but it had already obtained a seat at the table with the other industry heavyweights. Speculation abounded about the company's meteoric rise.
The media were particularly interested in its boss, who had remained behind the scenes.
No photos of him were available online.
The mysterious owner piqued Kira's interest.
The journalist in her asked, 'Doesn't he have to attend meetings and such? How come no one has caught sight of him?'
The CEO is the public face of the company,' said Lexi. 'But the real boss remains unknown. In fact, we don't even know if the boss is a "he."
'Hmm, interesting."
'I know, right? I would so like to meet the big cheese. Word on the street is that he's responsible for the company's breakneck speed of expansion. He is rumoured to have connections with high-ranking government officials." 'I see." Kira nodded.
So the boss of Revency was kind of like Austyn, who had both power and influence.
'But I doubt that's going to happen on this trip,' Lexi said. The boss is seldom at the office. We're meeting with the department manager.
Kira studied her files again.
The M Group was looking for brand ambassadors for several new product launches.
Lexi had printed out the product presentations.
"Don't worry," Lexi saw Kira leafing through the printouts. "We're just going to touch base with the manager and introduce you."
"Okay."
Kira's phone rang.
She checked the screen.
Unknown caller ID.
'Hello, who is this?' Kira asked tentatively.
