I was pregnant when I left you
She ran up to the youngster and held him quickly to stop him from running. “Shhh…. I won’t hurt you,” she said quietly.
The child finally stopped weeping, and his brow wrinkled as he passed out. Jenica walked back to the car, holding the youngster in her arms. Carlos approached the boy and looked at his appearance. “Agent J?”
“Look for a vacant hotel room in the next town.”
Carlos didn’t inquire why and just did what she said. Jenica sat the child in the passenger seat and buckled the seatbelt before turning around and getting into the car. She drove away, leaving Carlos on the road once more.
“Hearltess,” he mumbled before getting into the car and driving it after Agent J.
They soon arrived in the next town. Jenica drove the toddler to the hotel and bathed and clothed him with care. When she observed his flawless appearance, she took a deep breath.
“Hmm… That one looks like a rich kid, Agent J. He has a clean complexion and resembles me,” Carlos frowned.
“Like you?” she asked, looking up at the man.
He nodded, “Yes. We’re both handsome.”All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Jenica locked her gaze on Carlos for a few seconds before huffing and rolling her eyes. Her chest heaved even more when she stared down at the necklace. The rectangular pendant bore the name “Sham” etched on it, thus she was certain it belonged to Sham.
But what if Sham and this boy met? She became even more tense. What is her son’s current situation? She took a deep breath and bit her lower lip.
Jenica rushed up to the boy as soon as he regained consciousness. “Are you thirsty?” she inquired, handing him a glass of water.
Because the youngster drank the water rapidly, she replenished it and returned it to him. He eventually returned the glass with half of the water.
She fed the boy first since she noticed he was staring at the cookies on the center table. He looked at her after he finished eating. Jenica inhaled deeply. She was hesitant to ask about Sham’s condition.
“Child, what is your name?” Carlos asked, seeing her nervousness.
Jenica swallowed and relaxed. She should not let her emotions dictate her reasoning.
“It’s June.”
“Good,” Carlos said as he handed him a cookie. “Do you like it?” the man inquired. The child nodded, and the smile on his lips widened. “I’ll give it to you when you answer the question of the woman in front of you. Deal?” The young man nodded.
Carlos gave her a brief glance before gently walking away. Jenica swallowed again, trying to mask her nervousness. “Where did you get this necklace?” she questioned, holding it up.
When the boy saw the necklace, his eyes became red and he burst into tears. Jenica couldn’t think of anything to say. She was at a loss for words as she observed the child’s behavior. Did something awful happen to Sham for the youngster to act this way?
“Agent J,” Carlos said to her.
She took a deep breath and grinned as if she’d done it dozens of times before. “Don’t cry. Here, cookies.” She offered him cookies, which quieted the kid. For a brief moment, she closed her eyes. “Do you know where the owner of this necklace is? If you answer I will give you all the cookies on the table.”
“S-Sham just gave me the necklace before a man took him away.”
Jenica paused for a beat before asking again. “Is the man you’re talking about the tall man…” She described the men she observed on the CCTV camera outside the house where she and Sham were staying. Jenica felt cold when the boy nodded. “Then… Where did you last see them?” she questioned, holding her breath.
“They’re bad! They wanted to take me but Sham pushed me before that bad man could get me. Sham gave the necklace when they left us in the big car for a while.”
Jenica and Carlos exchanged glances. The latter promptly took out his phone and looked up the most current events in that town. Carlos muttered a curse. “Agent J, that child is the missing son of the Mondragon couple, who belong to the privileged families in this town. And they are your next target.”
She took a glance at the child. “When you saw Sham, was he dressed properly? The bad man wasn’t hurting him?”
“They slapped Sham in the face because Sham wanted to leave me on the road but the bad men didn’t want to. Then Sham said he was hungry but they didn’t want to feed him so Sham was always crying.”
Her teeth clenched. Her eyes wet, so she stood up and waved goodbye for a few moments. Carlos’ gaze followed her, but he remained inside with the boy.
Jenica went into the bathroom and shut the door. That’s when she let out the restrained sobs and straightened up. She continuously blamed herself. She then decided to contact the person she believed could only help her.
“Alex,” she said over the phone.
“I didn’t expect you to call me so soon. Are you done having fun in the South?” He sarcastically asked her.
But she had no intention of arguing with him right now since she was overcome by her feelings of guilt and self-reproach. “I-I want to say something…” She bit her lip and continued, “I wanted to tell you before but I didn’t have the chance. But I truly need your help this time.” She winced at the last phrase.
“What happened?” Alex asked after a little pause.” She could hear the concern in his voice, and she burst into tears as Alex’s voice became more urgent. “Jenica, open your GPS and stay where you are. I’ll come get you.”
She followed his instructions and then called Carlos, telling him to return to her room with the child. Her assistant didn’t ask why because he could tell she had just cried because her voice was hoarse.
She emerged from the restroom a few minutes later and stood in front of the vanity mirror. She straightened herself after removing the tear-soaked mask. She couldn’t, however, hide her swelling eyes. Sighing, she sat at the foot of the bed. Jenica had fallen asleep without realizing it.
She awoke instantly as she heard footsteps inside the room. Jenica jumped to her feet and charged at the newcomer. She raised her fist and was about to sever the intruder’s head when she noticed her husband’s face, and they both stared at each other.
“A-Alex?” she grumbled. Only then did she recall calling the man before falling asleep.
He reached for her face and stroked his finger over her puffy eyes. “Tell me what happened,” he asked firmly.
Jenica pursed her lips and clenched her hand. She was going to confess about their two children when she felt embarrassed. She believes she is unqualified to be Sham’s mother because she is too irresponsible and conceited to hide their child, but she is also incapable of protecting the child.
Sham was in her care when he was abducted. What kind of mother is she?
She averted her gaze and pushed his hand away from her face. Jenica frowned and bit her bottom lip. She wanted to tell Alex the truth, but she was terrified of the consequences.
What will he say about her? Will he hold it against her? Will he appear dissatisfied with her? Will he take Sham once they have found the boy?
“Jenica,” Alex called.
She tightened her hand and exhaled deeply. In either case, it’s extremely important to find Sham as soon as possible.
She raised her head to Alex and revealed the secret she had been keeping for years. “Five years ago… I ran away.” She swallowed hard. “I was pregnant with your child when I left you, Alex.”
