Chapter Fourteen

Alexa realized what he was talking about.
“Damn it! Stupid fingers” Alexa cursed and put them behind her.
“You can curse all u want but that won’t change the fact that you lied to me.” Jace said.
“Alright. Yeah, I lied… So what?” Alexa rolled her eyes and asked nonchalantly.
“Seriously? You asked me so what? Alexa, you had something that could change our lives for the better and you trashed it?” Jace asked amused.
“Yes I did. I did Jace.” Alexa replied.
“Why’d you do that?”
“Because I had to.”
“You had to? Why on earth would you have to throw out this and where’d you get it from?” He asked holding the card up.
“Should I be honest with you Jace?” Alexa asked. She was prepared to surrender and come out clean.
“Of course! That’s what I want.”
“OK. I actually met the owner of that business card in your hand.”
“You mean Anderson Green?” Jace asked in surprise and Alexa nodded.
“Where did you meet him?”
“I’ve actually met him twice.” Alexa said.
“OMG! That’s awesome!”
“Maybe…”
“So, how’d you both meet?” Jace asked extremely awed.
“Well, we first met at the restaurant I worked in before. He was so jerky and poppy then, and I gave him back the jerky side he gave me.”
“Wait. By that you mean in your normal, domineering, big sis way?” Jace asked.
“Yeah, something of the sort. Why do you ask though?”
“Oh no! I hope you didn’t do anything that got you on his bad side.”
“None that I remember. Although he does have a good space in my bad side.” Alexa snorted.
“And why’s that?”
“Well, like I said… He’s extremely jerky, bossy, arrogant and too proud of his rich status. To sum it all, he’s horrible.” Alexa answered in utter disdain.
“Its normal.” Jace said.
Alexa eyed him.
“What is?”
“He’s rich, why wouldn’t he be proud of it? Even I would be. Duh!” Jace stuck out his tongue at Alexa.
“Jace! You should be supporting me, not him. I’m your sister. ” Alexa said and shot him an angry look.
“Well, I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t support him. From everything I’ve read in the newspapers, he’s awesomely cool. I want to be like him someday ”
“So you choose him over me?” Alexa asked distraught.
“Yes Yes.” Jace answered.
“Geez. You’ve never even met him. You practically know nothing about him.”
“So do you.” Jace said without fearing any consequence from Alexa for what he said.
“What?!”
“Yeah. I mean, you claim to know him and you threw his card away.”
“Because I didn’t need it.” Alexa replied and Jace looked at her fingers.
He had a feeling she was lying, but her fingers pointed that she was telling the truth out.
“Wow… You didn’t really need it.” Jace mumbled.
“Huh?” Alexa asked confused. She was sure Jace was addressing her, but she didn’t quite make out his words.
“Ughm, nothing.”
“But you said something.” Alexa pressed.
“Forget it. Its not of any importance.”
“OK. If you say so.” Alexa gave up.
“Yeah. So, he must have told you something before giving you his business card. I don’t mind hearing it.”
“He actually offered me a job.” Alexa thinned her lips together and at that moment, Jace felt like their conversation was all a dream.
“He offered you a job?” Jace asked and Alexa nodded. His jaw dropped.
“Omg. So what did you tell him?”
“I declined.” Alexa casually said.
“Wait… Isn’t decline NO?” Jace scrunched his brow.
It wasn’t like he didn’t know the meaning of decline, in fact, he knew but hearing it come from Alexa at the moment he expected her to say yes crumbled his brain. He felt like either the meaning of decline changed overnight to YES, or what Alexa meant to say was delight… As in, she was delighted.
“Yes. Delight means NO.” Alexa confirmed what he feared.
“What do you mean by that? Why’d you decline?”
“Because he trampled on my being.” Alexa rolled her eyes.
“Trampled on your being? He trampled on your being by offering you a job?” Jace was utterly confused by now.All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Yes.” Alexa replied smugly.
“What the heck is wrong with you Lexie? Few days ago you were crying asking for a job. You went out to job hunt, you forgot to eat, you came back home your eyes all puffed up and told me you didn’t find a job yet. You couldn’t even tell me someone I admired a lot and looked up to as a role model from afar offered you a job. Do you think of yourself alone? I thought you needed to get me my drugs, or all those things you did in the past was all a facade? So you don’t care about me?”
Jace asked in annoyance and Alexa walked over to him, knelt in front of him and held his hands in hers.
“Jace, its not like that I promise you. Its true I didn’t get a job. I didn’t know Anderson Green was your role model till today. If I knew, I’d have told you about my encounters with him.”
Alexa said with her eyes teary. She never meant to hurt Jace. What was she saying? She’d never hurt him intentionally.
“And you didn’t accept a multi billionaire’s job offer?” Jace huffed.
“I couldn’t. He told me to be his maid.” Alexa shouted.
“Maid?” Jace quizzically asked.
“Yes. Now you realize why I said he trampled on my being.” Alexa looked down thinking her brother had finally understood her and was on her side now.
But what he said next shocked her.
“You should have accepted it then.” Jace spitted.
“huh?”
“Think about this. When you worked with Judy, he only paid you $50 per month. With Anderson, he’d pay way better. You always wanted to earn more. We need the money here. Being his maid is not so bad, you can quit anytime.” Jace tried to reason with his sister and shifted his gaze to meet hers, but he immediately regretted it.
Alexa’s palm locked on his left cheek and for a split second, everything froze for Jace. When everything unfroze, he felt the impact of what happened earlier, His cheek started hurting.
Jace threw his gaze towards Alexa’s and ran upstairs to his room and locked the door behind him.
“Oh my God! What did I just do?” Alexa asked as she sat on the floor and buried her face in her hands.
