Chapter 1231
Brielle's hand twitched, wanting to pull away.
King, after a brief kiss, stood up and pulled her back into his arms. He held her so tightly she could barely breathe. It felt like the chains of love had clamped down on her again, trapping her completely.
The metallic scent of blood at her nose reminded her that he was hurt.
"Children," she whispered, her voice raspy, eyes brimming with tears.
Why treat a child like that? If he was done with her, he could just toss her aside. She was used to being abandoned. But children? They were innocent.
King went rigid, not quite getting what she meant.
"Are you talking about a child?" he asked, confused.
"Brielle, please be clear, I don't understand." He clung to her, burying his face in her neck with a kind of desperate longing. The warmth of her skin told him she was alive, not rotting away in the sea, not devoured by fish. She was really back.
Brielle wanted to push him away, but then she felt something wet on her neck. She froze. The dampness seemed to seep into her pores, stabbing at her heart like a thousand needles. It hurt so much.
The metaphorical vines wrapped around her tighter, but somehow, she found comfort in their grip.
She looked out the window, watching the distant city lights flicker. The breeze made the half-open curtains sway. The wetness on her neck was so pronounced, she felt paralyzed, just staring out at the scene.
After a while, she slowly raised her hand and placed it on the back of his head. His hair was soft, his skin smooth, his looks flawless. He was like a rare flower on a high peak-perfect to a suspicious degree. She often wondered if the intensity in his eyes was real. Listening to his slightly muffled voice, her fingertips on his head, she stayed silent.
When the first light of dawn broke, she finally asked, "Why did you send me away?"
King had regained his strength by then and looked up at her. His eyes were red-rimmed, as if poisoned.
"What?"
"Why did you have Myles send me away!" she demanded, her eyes blazing with anger.
"I didn't," he shot back quickly, gripping her hand tight. "I really didn't."
How could he have let Myles send her away? Myles had acted under someone else's orders, but King.
didn't care to think about it anymore. Myles was dead now, anyway.

"Brielle, why would I send you away?" His voice was weak. He held her, not wanting to let go.
Brielle pursed her lips and slapped him. King looked hurt. Even if he'd left in a fit of anger, surely one bullet was punishment enough?
"Children, why harm the children? If you're tired of me, sending me away is one thing."
King realized something was off. His brows furrowed as he touched her forehead-no fever. He moved her to the bed and rang for the doctor.
The doctor arrived quickly.novelbin
"Give her a thorough check-up," King said seriously.
Then, turning to Brielle with a gentle look, he kissed her fingertips.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't do those things. It must b Myles messing with your memory. Just calm down, okay? Brielle."
His gaze seemed to calm the turmoil in her heart, bringing her a sense of peace.
The doctor examined her but
couldn't find anything wrong. The damage was to her memory, something only a skilled hypnotist could fix. But no one could out hypnotize Myles.
With Myles gone, Brielle had no choice but to wait for her memory to recover on its own.
