My Mute Wife

Chapter 39 Do You Hate Him?

“Who was he going to kill?”

“Alfie Mitchell.”

This name, which had disappeared from J City for many years, was somewhat unfamiliar to Mr. Stanley, but it wasn’t hard to hear that there was a great connection with Peter.

“Peter’s brother?”

Alan nodded, “After that fire back then, Peter had an extra thirteen percent of shares in his hand overnight, becoming the largest shareholder of Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group and officially taking over the Mitchell Group.”

Mr. Stanley’s gaze turned grave, “Alan, this is a private matter for the Mitchell family.”

The family’s infighting had always been bloodless, and there was no point in rehashing such a secretive old story.

Alan’s tone was extremely cold, “Peter should pay for it.”

Seeing that he couldn’t be persuaded, Mr. Stanley collected his expression and sighed helplessly, “I’m tired, you should go back first.”

“…”

After Alan went out, the butler came in and served tea to Mr. Stanley.

“Mr. Stanley, it’s natural that Mr. Alan dislike what the Mitchell family did, after all, that fire almost cost his life back then.”

Back then, it was the Mitchell family that stopped the Howard family from putting out the fire, and if Alan hadn’t been so lucky to have escaped on his own, he would indeed have been died in the fire.

“You really think that Alan is holding on to the Mitchell family for his own sake?” Mr. Stanley had a worried look on his face, “There was another child who perished in the fire back then, right?”

The butler froze, “You mean to say that Mr. Alan is doing it for that child?”

Mr. Stanley nodded.

Alan had a cold face and a hard heart, and would do anything to achieve profit, but only he, the grandfather, knew that Alan was most righteous.

“Then this is a difficult matter,” sighed the butler.

“…”

After returning from the summer resort, Alan’s face hadn’t looked good.

In the evening, Lexie made tea and sent it to his study.

Alan did not drink tea as usual, nor did he look at her, but kept looking at the pages in front of him, not turning a page for a long time, his brow tightly knitted in a chilling manner.

[Are you in a bad mood?]

Lexie looked at him cautiously.

Alan glanced at her, the hand clutching the pages tightening slightly without speaking.

Lexie asked apprehensively, [Is it because Mr. Stanley asked you to divorce me? What do you need me to answer if this matter is asked again?]

She just wanted to figure out Alan’s thoughts in advance to avoid making a mistake.

“Nothing to do with you.”

Hearing that, Lexie pursed her lips and carefully took a step backwards to prepare to leave.

Alan’s moods were always so cloudy and unpredictable, making her inscrutable.Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

“Stand there.”

His voice suddenly came from behind her, and Lexie looked back in dismay.

Across a large desk, Alan was looking at her coldly, his face with an ugly scar on it, and the pair of his eyes staring at her closely are like cold winds that make her panic.

His voice was not loud, but resounding, “Do you hate Peter?”

Lexie’s heart trembled for a moment, and she shook her head after a while.

Alan’s face sank down, “Why don’t you hate him? He made you marry me instead of Edith, used you as a pawn that could be manipulated at will by my side, and even threatened you with the safety of your loved ones’ lives, why don’t you hate him?”

Lexie clenched her fists.

After a moment, she still shook her head.

Even so, Peter was her father, raising her for so many years and giving her better-than-average living and educational conditions.

Otherwise, with a disability like hers, she wouldn’t be having a good time right now.

“He’s still a murderer!”

His deep, cold voice echoed through the room, and the moment she met his crimson eyes, Lexie’s heart fell.

[What do you mean by that? Who did he kill?]

Alan’s face was getting grim.

Perhaps it was the chat with his grandfather today, the first time he talked about the truth he had found out over the years, or perhaps it was the fact that Lexie’s presence was causing him to have nightmares more and more frequently these days.

At the moment, that emotion inexplicably occurred.

He looked at Lexie, those eyes that were extremely similar to Linda’s, innocent, simple, clean.

But Linda was gone forever, and in front of him was this mute, the murderer’s daughter.

“Clang”, the tea served by Lexie was knocked down, the tea cup fell on the floor, instantly split into pieces, splashing tea mixed with tea leaves, smashed on Lexie’s ankle.

“Ugh-” Lexie whimpered in pain.

“Get out!”

Lexie was stunned, [What’s wrong with you?]

“Can’t understand?” Alan’s eyes were horrible.

Lexie subconsciously took a half-step back, and then, ignoring the pain from the burns on her feet, she scrambled away.

She dreaded to think if she would have been torn apart by this man if she had stayed one second longer.

After she left, Alan strode over to the window and pushed it open, letting the cold wind blow onto his face, slowly blowing those suppressed emotions away and gradually calming down.

There was the sound of a door slamming from the next bedroom.

Followed by the ‘click’ of a locking door, his eyebrows frowned.

Thinking about the conversation he just had with Lexie, Alan was suddenly annoyed.

What was the use of talking to her so much? This mute was just a pawn of Peter, even if she fell into his hands, it would not change the fact that her surname was ‘ Mitchell ‘.

Lexie returned to her room and sat on the edge of her bed for a while, her heart palpitating.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the gray invitation in the corner of her dresser.

The moment she saw it, her heart suddenly tightened, the day after tomorrow was Peter’s birthday banquet, and what Alan wanted her to do couldn’t be avoided.

It was late in the night.

The summer resort of the Howard family on the outskirts of the city was stately and serene.

On the balcony on the second floor, Tina leaned lazily on the balcony, holding her phone, “Grandpa doesn’t like her, but my cousin insists, so there’s nothing that can be done. Edith, you should give up, my cousin has a very strange personality.”

Not knowing what was said on the other end of the phone, Tina showed some impatience.

“Well, it’s late, I gotta go.”

After saying this, Tina hung up the phone and muttered, “Why should I help with this crap?”

“What’s wrong?” A tall figure stepped out of the room, and even in the dim light, it was hard to hide the handsomeness of the man’s good looks.

Tina turned from the railing and shrugged her shoulders, “Nothing, Edith asked me to go her father’s birthday banquet, I think she doesn’t want to give up on my cousin.”

“So are you going?”

“No, what’s the fun of a birthday party? Watching a bunch of people flattering each other?”

The man wrapped his arms around her waist, “But your father asked me to go there.”

“What?” Tina froze, and then came back to her senses and her eyes lit up, “Then I’ll go too.”
