Chapter 146: Can I dance with you?
~~~I won't let you down, no better love will be there when you turn around. I'll be living for you when the oceans turn to sand. There will never be another man could love you just the way that I love you. So don't believe the world, no the world can't give us paradise in the eye within the storm when I just can't make it through the night. As long as we got you and I~~~
-Kenny Rogers-
"Eherm,"
"Ohh... the ex-husband, huh?"
I hitched my breath when Martin whispered in my ear. I suddenly felt like I wanted to his body apart.
"Can I dance with you?"
But my mouth opened slightly when I heard Luke's question and I turned to him. He's staring at me intently which made my insides melt.
"Can I also have the chance to dance the woman in your arms, Martin?" He then threw him a serious gaze and even though Martin was shocked as to how Luke knew his name, he immediately nodded.
"Oh, sure, I mean, of course, you can dance with her." Martin gave my hand to Luke as if he was my father giving my hand to my groom.
I raised an eyebrow when he showed me his phone, silently telling me that he would just send me his answer. He even winked before turning around which made me chuckle and shake my head. "You seemed so close to him, huh?"
I gazed up at Luke's face and saw how serious his expression was. He put my hand over his shoulder and I gasped slightly when he pulled me closer to him.
"I think we don't have to be this close," I muttered, gripping his shirt tightly.
"You haven't answered my question yet,"
"Because I thought it was not a question." "It was,"
I rolled my eyes, trying to relax in his hold.
"Well, yes, we are close. Why, do you have any problem with that, Mr. Williams?"
He then pushed me slightly, narrowing his eyes at me much to my surprise.
"Why?" I asked barely a whisper as I noticed him staring at my lips.
He didn't answer my question, he just closed his eyes tightly and pulled me into a hug. And a shiver ran down my spine when he massaged the skin on the back of my ear using his thumb as he kissed my hair. "W-What's going with you? What are you doing, Luke?" I asked, gripping his arm.
"Just stay still," his only response and I took a deep breath.
Honestly, I don't understand why my body suddenly yearns for that simple touch... for his touch. I closed my eyes and seized that moment even just for a while.
"I missed you," he whispered, holding me even tighter.
"Luke," I tried to free myself from his arms but he didn't budge.
"I'm sorry, I can't help saying those words. I missed you and please let me hold you even just for a few seconds."
And I heard him take a deep breath before hugging me even tighter as if he was afraid to let me go.
I bit my bottom lip. I think there's nothing wrong if I let him hold me and I let myself be carried away by his touch. It's just for today... just for today. So I leaned my head against his shoulder as we continued to sway in the middle, oblivious of the stares we're getting from the people around us.
But after a few minutes, I remembered something that I need to ask him.
"By the way, where is Lucy?"
"Hmm? Why are you suddenly asking about her?" He asked me back without letting my body apart even an inch.
"Because I saw you with her earlier, I mean, I saw you entering the venue with her earlier."
"Well, yes, but she received a call from her younger brother who was studying abroad and he wanted her to pick him up at the airport."
"Ahh... so she received a call," I mumbled.
"Yes, why?"novelbin
"Nothing, I just thought Dana had talked to her earlier."
"But why would she do that?"
"Because she didn't invite her." I heard nothing from him so, I asked again. "Did Caleb invite her?"
"Actually, I don't know, maybe no---" I interrupted him.
"So it's just you who decided to invite her and bring her here? Why? For you to have a date?"
I didn't notice my voice sounded a bit 'bitter'. And that made him push me a little away from his body and stare at me intently.
"Are you jealous of Lucy?" He asked, holding my shoulders.
"Tss!" I snarled. "And why would I be jealous of her?" And I rolled my eyes.
"Exactly, why are you jealous of her?" He has a mischievous grin playing on the corner of his lips.
"Huh! For your information, I'm not jealous of her, Mr. Williams!" I said through gritted teeth, getting rid of his hands from my shoulders.
He chuckled at me and to my surprise, he then pulled me again into a hug.
"Oh, yeah, of course, sweetheart, you're not jealous." he kissed me on the top of my head. "But don't worry, she's not my girlfriend and she will never be, I assure you that. "Tss! I don't care whether she's your girlfriend or not!" I whispered-yelled, but he just laughed again.
"Ohh... you are so cute, sweetheart," He whispered back, tightening his hold.
I was about to tell him 'oh, yeah, I've known that ever since I was born' but, the voice of our daughter cut me off.
"Mommy, Daddy, can I also dance with you?" Cali's question that suddenly lightened my mood.
I gazed up at Luke and saw the love and amusement dancing in his eyes.
"I think you should dance your daughter now before her future boyfriend can dance with her without you even knowing," I said, playing with Luke's reaction.
"What?" He immediately let go of my hands as he turned to his daughter. "Not! That would never happen!"
I couldn't help but laugh at his exaggerated expression.
"And who could say so? She's turning eleven this year and two years from now you already have a teenage daughter and we both know how fast the time flies. You will just realize she's already eighteen and already has a boyfriend ---" "No!"
I laughed so hard at his reaction. He even interrupted me and lowered his height to his daughter's level. "Do you already have a boyfriend?"
And that silly question made Cali and I giggle.
"No, daddy, I'm still young,"
"That's good and don't grow up so fast, princess, I just want you to be my baby forever." He said, tucking the strands of his daughter's hair behind her both ears.
"But how about when I turned eighteen, can I have two boyfriends at the same time?"
"Oh, my God!" Luke exclaimed in shock and turned to me as if he's asking me where his daughter got those silly ideas at such a young age.
I shook my head, biting my lip to control my laughter as I silently told him that 'it isn't me and it wasn't me'.
"I have a lot of things to explain to you, princess, but I'll just wait until the time is right and when you have reached the right age, but for now, let's stop talking about boyfriends or anything related to it because that word itself is getting into my nerves!" "But daddy?" Cali exclaimed, frowning.
"Yeah, I can't hold it, I think I'm kinda allergic to that word so, don't you ever ask me again about having or getting a boyfriend even in the future."
"Huh? But dad---"
"Let's just dance, baby, you said you wanted to dance, right?" Luke interrupted her, turning the topic back as to why Cali suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
"Hmhm." She hummed, nodding.
"I guess I'll just wait for you at the table," I winked at my daughter and her father but...
"Wait," he called my attention.
"What---" but I didn't get the chance to continue what I was going to ask as I already felt his lips on my forehead.
I just looked at him in surprise, but he just smiled at me and his daughter giggled in his left.
So, I intentionally stepped closer to him, just a mere inch apart before pinching him on the side.
"Ouch..." He whispered, looking at me as if silently begging me to let go of his poor skin.
"Ohh... sweetheart, I'm sorry," but I just smiled sweetly.
And even though he was a little surprised when I called him with that term of endearment again, he couldn't open his mouth to say something because if he did, he knew I would pinch him even more. "There..." I decided to let him go.
I noticed him take a deep breath and I patted him on the shoulder.
"I'll take a seat now," I said smirking before walking back to our table.
I couldn't help a sigh as I watched them dance and giggle at the same time. That scene is to be considered priceless as it's really amazing to see how suddenly Luke became an overprotective father.
