Chapter 21 Road Trip
Half an hour ago, Michael stormed back in, and they had another heated argument. Ever since Sophia came back, Emily felt like she and Michael couldn't stop fighting.
She was outside, watering the flowers in her light clothes, and Michael just wouldn't drop it. She was super annoyed, and right then, Daniel called to remind her she could visit her mom tomorrow. She felt a flicker of happiness, but then Michael snatched her phone and smashed it to pieces. "Are you agreeing to divorce me because of him? Emily, are you that desperate for a man?" Michael yelled. Emily was furious. "Why did you smash my phone? What does our relationship have to do with you? You jerk, you owe me a new phone." She shouted, staring sadly at the shattered pieces. Michael shot back, "Emily, you want a divorce and half of my assets to be with your lover, right? I'm telling you, it's not going to happen."
Emily felt drained by his accusations. "I don't understand what you're saying. You're nuts!" She pushed him away and tried to leave, but Michael grabbed her. He didn't want to fight today, but he saw Daniel having dinner with a beautiful woman at a restaurant, laughing and chatting.
Thinking about how Daniel used to look at Emily, Michael instinctively felt Daniel was a jerk and feared Emily would be deceived. But every conversation with Emily turned into a fight. Michael tried to explain, "Emily, Daniel is no good. I saw him today..."
"I don't know if he's good or not, and I don't care, but what right do you have to interfere? I've had enough, let go of me." Emily cut him off, and Michael felt his good intentions were seen as meddling.
"Fine, I was meddling. Then you can think about it outside alone." Michael said, slamming the door shut, "Ava, don't let her in."
Locked outside, Emily was almost driven mad by Michael. In the end, Ava couldn't stand it and let her in.
Emily thought, 'How did I not notice before that Michael is so nasty, childish, selfish, and arrogant?'
It turned out that loving someone really created a filter, and once that filter was broken, you realized they were just so-so.
But what Emily didn't know was that after she fell asleep, Michael quietly entered her room and placed a cup of tea on her bedside table.
Ava was increasingly baffled by them, one moment fighting for divorce, the next making tea for each other. In the end, it was just because of Michael's inherent bad nature.
Emily didn't want to stay in the same space as Michael, so when Abigail invited her for a road trip over the weekend, she gladly agreed.
The countryside air was great, and her troubled mood suddenly vanished. She no longer thought about Michael and Sophia, and everything seemed wonderful. This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
"Emily, feeling better?" Daniel came over, watching her feed a stray kitten by the roadside. Daniel had also joined the road trip this time.
Emily replied, "I'm fine. By the way, I visited my mom last time, and she's still the same, no response at all." She didn't know how much longer she could hold on; she'd been waiting for Isabella for what felt like forever.
"Emily, remember when Isabella had the accident, the doctor told you to be prepared. The fact that she's held on this long is because you haven't given up. So, now's not the time to give up. I'll be with you." Daniel's voice was always so gentle.
Emily smiled. "Thanks, Daniel." She wouldn't give up, even if the final result wasn't what she wanted, she'd accept it.
"Emily, how are things with you and Michael now?" Daniel couldn't help but ask.
"Just the same," she replied lightly.
Seeing she didn't want to talk about it, Daniel didn't push further, but his heart was still stirred. 'If Emily really gets divorced, will I have a chance?' he wondered.
In the end, Abigail took tons of photos of them, and Emily felt like it was a stolen moment of joy.
But Michael found out about her road trip. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but he discovered Daniel was there too.
He immediately called Emily, but her phone was off, and his face darkened. "Find out where Mrs. Smith is right now," he instructed Andrew to check Emily's itinerary.
Emily's plan was a two-day, one-night trip, but just one day in, Michael showed up in front of her, with a smug-looking Sophia.
"Let's go." Emily was still upset about Michael locking her out last time, so when she saw him at the guesthouse door, she didn't give him a good look and pulled Abigail to leave.
Michael came with bad intentions. "So, Emily, you leave your husband and go out with another man?" he said, glaring at Daniel.
Emily paused. "Michael, what exactly do you want?"
"Oh, Emily, you can go on a date with another man, and Michael can't even ask?" Sophia pretended to be innocent and started stirring things up.
Before Emily could speak, Abigail couldn't help but retort, "Do you have the right to speak, you homewrecker? How can you talk dirty about our class reunion? It turns out that people with dirty minds see everything as dirty." Sophia's face stiffened and she immediately turned to Michael to complain, "Michael, look at Emily's friend, so rude. I didn't even say anything, and she started cursing."
Michael could see that Sophia was doing it on purpose, but seeing Emily completely ignoring him made him furious. "Emily, make your friend apologize to Sophia."
Hearing this, Emily immediately protected Abigail like a mother bear and glared at Michael. "She asked for it. What does it have to do with Abigail? If anyone should apologize, it's her."
Michael was also angry, and the tension between them was palpable, neither willing to back down.
"Michael, didn't you say you were taking me out to relax? Let's not disturb Emily and her date. Let's go." Sophia pulled Michael's arm and acted all sweet.
