You’ll Anticipate It!
Veil didn’t know how to feel as she walked back into her office. As her heels echoed on the tiled ground, her heart thumped in perfect synchrony, making her halt abruptly in the middle of the hallway. Shaking her head, she tried to get rid of her fears before continuing the journey to her office.
Although she hadn’t done anything wrong that she could remember, the look Anders had given her wasn’t particularly a friendly one.
He was obviously pissed about something.
And that smirk.
Urgh!
Veil felt shudders run through her as she dropped into her seat. She caught a package on the floor from the corner of her eyes and muttered “shit!” Anders had instructed that she finished the food before he returned to the office and she had totally forgotten about it.
The shrill of the telephone suddenly interrupted the silence in the office, and Veil almost jumped out of her seat in shock. The phone stopped ringing before she could pick it up, but in a second, the ringing tone started again, and she placed the receiver against her ear immediately.
“It took you a minute to pick my call.” Anders wasn’t asking a question, so Veil didn’t know what to say in response.
“I’m…”
“Save it,” he said, interrupting her. “I need you in my office right now. And come along with the empty takeout.”
Veil blew out a breath as Anders ended the call. She didn’t know why he was so upset over a meal she hadn’t even asked him to order in the first place. Now, she felt so stupid gushing over the note he probably sent to twenty other women in the same time frame.
“He probably even said the same thing to Sophia at some point,” Veil said to herself, grabbing the takeout and walking briskly to his office. She was determined not to flinch even in the slightest if he started with his attitude like he was damn bipolar.
Knocking on the door once, Veil pushed it open without waiting to be ordered in. She stood at the other side of the table, waiting for Anders to say something. But he took his time rounding up an email and hitting the send button before he looked up at her.
“Have you eaten?” He asked, oddly calm.
“I couldn’t. I had to work.”
“I asked you to eat first,” Anders retorted. “How’s that so hard to follow?”Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
“You would have chewed me out as well if you had returned without meeting that mail in your folder.” Veil had a lot to get off her chest.
Anders sighed and leaned back in his seat. He had been out there with Sophia, running out of his mind, bothered that Veil hadn’t had anything to eat all day and it was all his fault. Yet, she was only so concerned about that damn paper and of course, chatting away with Simon.
It irked him to the core.
“Sit,” Anders instructed, signaling Veil forward. Seeing as she had no other choice, she took the chair at the other end of his mahogany table, dropping the take out on the table.
“Now, eat every bit of it. Every. Single. Bit.”
Veil would have said something about his tone, but the smell of the food had her swallowing her words real fast. When Simon had said it was the best restaurant around, he hadn’t been joking.
Gasping as she took one fork full of the lasagna, Veil closed her eyes to revel in the taste, allowing it to get to every corner of her mouth. It felt like ages since she last had something that good to eat, and even though a part of her wanted to take it all at once, Veil had no idea when she would get something like this to eat.
She couldn’t trust that Anders would do it again, especially since she couldn’t predict his actions.
When Veil opened her eyes, she leaned back in shock when she met Anders leaning on his palms, watching her intently. His eyes slowly roamed her face, from her stunned eyes, down to her lips, oily from the lasagna and slightly parted.
“Now you’re just doing it on purpose,” Anders drawled, his voice suddenly sounding deeper and huskier than usual. Veil shivered in response, unable to pry her gaze off his.
“Doing what?” She whispered, utterly spellbound.
“The lasagna. It can’t be that good to have you looking that way.” Anders said each word slowly, every sound made glorified.
“How do I look?” She didn’t know why she couldn’t look away. Perhaps, it had something to do with his eyes, those sea blue that held her under its grasp.
“Like you’re having an orgasm,” He said without batting an eyelid, catching Veil off guard. She gasped again, wondering why those words felt so good.
“That is not…this is not…”
“Have you had one before?” Anders asked casually, like he was talking about golf. The only thing that gave it away was his needy voice and his hazy stares.
“With the look on your face, I’m guessing you haven’t,” he continued. “Trust me when I say it feels greater than that lasagna melting in your mouth.”
“We’re not discussing my personal life,” Veil said weakly.
“We already kissed. And I don’t recall you pushing me away.”
“That was just a kiss. It didn’t mean anything. You took me by surprise.”
“Hmm,” Anders nodded, then leaned back into his seat. “It wasn’t just a kiss for me, Veil. But since you have that view, I’ll make sure I don’t take you by surprise next time. You’ll see me coming, and you’ll anticipate it.”
“Mr. Rodriguez…”
“Anders.”
“What?”
“When we are alone, it is Anders to you. Now eat. I’ll get you a bottle of water.”
For a startling minute, Veil thought he was going to get the water himself, but instead, Anders picked up his phone and dialed the Simonson office, a mischievous glint playing in his eyes.
“Can you get a bottle of water to my office, please? It’s quite urgent. I don’t want her to choke on her food.”
