Chapter 0241
Knox POV
"Are you still with us, Knox?" Chase asked, sounding bored and fed up with dealing with me. Something he had in common with Kane.
"And me." Havoc interjected rudely.
"Back at you!" I snapped back, not in the mood for his bullshit right now.
"SHUT UP DAMMIT." I screamed behind me. "I can't think, let alone hear him." I knew I was taking my frustration out on them, but it made it easier than admitting to Chase that everything he was saying was right. I was a fuck up. A waste of space. I had failed my girl. My mate. My children.
"Fuck you!" Someone yelled back. The room erupted with the sound of laughter and cheers. Growling, no longer in the mood for this. I rolled my eyes and flipped them off without even glancing back into the room. If I had not been otherwise engaged, I would have happily taught these pricks manners.
"Ha, whatever you say." Havoc rumbled with laughter. Like the arrogant fuck, he was.
"Well, maybe if you helped me out, I would win a fight every now and then." I muttered to my wolf, or at least I thought I did, but given how the barman looked at me, I guessed I had said it out loud. "Where are you, Knox?" Chase asked abruptly. "Is that shouting I hear?"
I looked around, seeing the blonde I had been eyeing earlier arguing with a guy built like a truck. His friends surrounded him, eyeing me like I was a damn hooker. My lips curled, seeing them egging the male on. Given the way he was eyeballing me, he was apparently her boyfriend and didn't like the offer I had made his mate.
"Your funeral," I mumbled, turning back to the bar, but in the back of my mind, I knew Havoc was right; I was in no fit state to take on those fuckers. Even when I was sober.
"Knox." I heard Chase scold me down the phone, getting my attention again. "Is that fighting? Where the fuck are you?" he demanded; maybe it was weak and selfish of me, but I hoped that if I told him, he would tell Lottie, and she would come to see me and save me? "You're deluded." Havoc moaned. "She is suffering enough, and you want her to think you're fucking other woman too." He scolded me; he had a point, but... maybe, just maybe, it would help. Sitting on my ass wasn't doing me any good. So perhaps if she came to tell me off, yell at me, anything, I would be able to get her alone long enough to hear her tell me she still loved me. Even if she hated me, that would be better than this torture. Not seeing her pretty face, bright eyes and growing belly was killing me, quite literally. "Yeah," I chuckled, swaying slightly. "I apparently tried to fuck the wrong girl at The White Flag." I muttered. "Her mate looks pretty pissed, I should go deal with him." I groaned, waving at the big fucker, just because.
"What's your problem, man." I cooed
softly, trying to bait him. "She's only telling you now because I turned her down.. not my type.. too... easy." I yelled across the bar, shrugging. Well, fuck it, in for a penny, in for a pound, as the saying goes. Alcohol didn't seem to be helping ease my suffering; maybe a good beating would knock me out long enough to at least sleep a few hours without my girl's face running through my mind.
"Idiot," Chase muttered. "I'm putting you on speaker. Don't hang up." I heard him tapping his phone, probably texting Kane.
"Chase, wait. I" Before I could finish, the tank stormed over, shoving me hard enough to knock me off my barstool.
"Well, that was rude, I was talking to my brother-in-law." I groaned, bending to pick up my phone seconds before I saw the fuckers foot slam down on the screen; the sound of shattering glass and cracking plastic so loud in my ears made me groan, knowing I would be buying a new phone tomorrow.
"You think you can flirt with my girl and get away with it?" The guy snarled, standing over me.novelbin
"Yep." I laughed. "I am Knox Maddox... I can.." I slurred as I pulled myself up, nodding to the barman for another drink.
"Where was I?" I muttered, looking at the bar man again as he slid a cloth to me, not the drink I asked for while rolling his eyes.
"You are Knox Maddox.." He laughed, his tone condescending yet amused.
"Aww, yes... I am Knox Maddox, and
I can do what I like, buddy... but luckily for you, I don't like your girl." I grinned smugly while flashing the blonde an apologetic smile. "Nothing personal, sweetheart, but I like my girls a little less... that," I announced, motioning to the whole of her body. "And more." Picking up my phone, I looked at the screen, feeling anger wash over me as I remembered the fucker had broken my phone and with it the picture of Lottie I was about to show the girl.
"Well, you're gonna pay for that," I seethed, pushing myself forward and wiping my mouth. I lunged at him, swinging wildly. The fight quickly escalated, fists flying, chairs toppling. Other patrons scrambled to get out of the way as we crashed into tables, sending drinks and glasses shattering to the floor. The chaos around us seemed to match the turmoil inside me.
The guy landed a punch to my gut, knocking the wind out of me. I stumbled but managed to grab a bottle from the bar, swinging it at him. It shattered against his shoulder, and he roared in pain. Before I knew it, more people had joined the brawl, and it turned into an all- out melee.
My phone lay forgotten on the floor, the line to Chase as dead as the phone itself. As I threw myself into the thick of the fight, I felt a strange mix of exhilaration and despair. This was my punishment, my escape. Maybe in the chaos, I could forget. But as punches landed and pain radiated through my body, one thought remained clear:
Kane was going to be pissed! But not as pissed as Dad...
Good!
