Chapter 16
Cynthia POV
It's finally the day I have been waiting all my life for, but I'm a bit nervous. I have made up my mind to confess my feelings to Asher today being his birthday, but I'm also nervous. What if he rejects me? What if he feels like I'm not beautiful enough for him? It's my first time doing something like this, and I just pray he doesn't make me regret it.
"Are you sure about this, Cynthia?" My subconscious mind asks me as I stare at the wrapped gift in my hand, and I also ask myself the same question. Am I really sure about this? What if it doesn't go as planned? What if things don't turn out well in my favor?
"I can do this... I will do this," I say to myself before I finally stride out of my room. Adelie already gave me the address of their house, and I'm just going to meet them at home. Since it's Saturday, I'm sure that they will all be at home. My name is Cynthia, twenty-six years old single young lady that has been broken by men several times, and I ended up giving up on love, but not until I met him. My heart which I thought I built a wall around to avoid anyone intruding it anymore got broken the moment I saw him, and there was this feeling I had, and I know that I want him. I want Asher Williams as my all because I'm deeply in love with him.
Standing at the roadside a few minutes later, I haul down a cab after a few failed trials, and the journey to the William's house began.
My heart is filled with many thoughts as the cabby drives its way down the road, at some point I think I should just stop the cab and turn back from here because of how nervous I am, but then, I know I shouldn't give up before even trying. It's better to try and fail, than not to try at all, right? But I'm still scared of failing.
Being on the road for what seemed like forever, the cab finally stops in front of the mansion, and I step out of it. I pay him and he leaves afterward.
Staring at the building in front of me, I doubt if I'm in the right place, because how can here be so quiet on Asher's birthday? I still proceed to the entrance door, regardless.
Taking a deep breath, I ring the doorbell with my hands trembling fearfully, and two minutes later, the door pulls open, revealing a middle-aged man, whom I assume to be Adelie's dad.RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
"Good day, Sir," I quickly bow to greet him politely.
"Good day, young lady. Who are you?" He asks me, while still standing in the doorway.
"Oh, my name is Cynthia. I'm here..."
"Oh, you must be the Cynthia Adelie always talks about. Come inside, she's upstairs," He says to me politely as he pulls the door open for me to go in.
"Uhm... Sir, actually... I came to see Asher and not Adelie," I say to him, and he stops for a few seconds to look at me again.
"Asher?" He asks, maybe to be sure he didn't hear me wrong, and when I nod my head, the look he pulls on doesn't look nice. He looks like it's taboo to ask after his son.
"Uhm... Yes! Is there any problem, Sir?" I ask him to clarify my confusion, but he quickly wears a smile.
"Not at all. Come inside," He finally leaves the door wide open for me, and I walk inside. The living room is so big and beautiful, and it screams wealth with all the beautiful designs in here.
"Please sit, I will go get him for you," He says to me, and I sit on the couch. I watch as he walks away and climbs the stairs, and again, my nervousness kicks in.
Barely ten minutes after the man left, the sound of the footsteps descending the staircase pull my attention, and I tilt my head to see Adelie.
"Hey, sweetie. How're you doing today?" I greet her nervously as I stand up to my feet.
"Hey, Cynthia. You came," She smiles at me widely, and I nod my head. It's my only chance, so how could I have missed it for anything in the world?
"Yes. Where is he?" Anxious, I ask her.
"Relax. He'll soon be here," She replies to me, throwing herself on the couch and crossing her legs.
"Hmm," I finally sit back on the couch.
"It's a good thing my parents are home. You can finally meet them. I've been telling them about you, and they have been looking forward to meeting you," She says to me, but my mind is somewhere else, so I just hum. I just want to see Asher, and nothing else.
"Why's he not here yet?" I know I'm acting crazy right now, but I can't help it.
"He should be here soon. I think he was getting dressed before I left his room," She replies to me, and I slowly nod my head.
"Is he going out? Does he have a date with someone? How about you fix a date between us?" I bombard her with questions, but she only rolls her eyes at me.
"It's the first time someone is going to be so crazy about my son, and I think I love this energy," A feminine voice sounds behind me, and I quickly stand up and turn to see a woman walking into the living room. With the striking resemblance between her and Adelie, I need no one to tell me that she's her mom.
"Good day, ma'am," I quickly bow to greet her, and she smiles at me widely.
"Good day, sweetheart. You must be the Cynthia that Adelie has been telling us about, yeah?" She pats my shoulder before she sits on the couch, and I quickly nod my head.
"Wow! It's so good to see you. Come on, why don't you have a seat? Asher will soon be here," She says to me, and I nod my head and sit back on the couch.
"I have heard so much about you, and they are all good things. Adelie has never had any friends, but I think she really likes you," She says to me, and I blush hard. "Thank you, ma'am," I reply to her.
"You earned it, darling," She says to me, and I smile.
The sound of the footsteps descending the staircase pulls my attention, and I snap my head there in anticipation to see Asher. My heart freezes in my chest for some seconds, as I watch him walk elegantly down the stairs. He's graced in long black trousers, and a red buttoned-down shirt that has the two up buttons opened, revealing his broad chest. His thick black hair is clinging to his head while having some strands covering his forehead. He hasn't gotten to where I am, yet his nice smell has filled the atmosphere. He's the definition of perfection, to still look so handsome even with the deep frown on his face.
"Oh, my God!" I don't know when my hands fly to my mouth that dropped open moments ago. Just who the hell is this man, because I can't believe he's a human...
