Chapter 3
As Lemira appeared at the scene, all eyes turned towards her. With a stoic expression on her face, she stood unfazed by the attention.
Dressed in a simple T-shirt, her attire was overshadowed by the lavish accessories she adorned. A delicate golden tiara rested on her head, a necklace of emeralds hung around her neck, her wrists were adorned with jade and gold bracelets, and her fingers bore a large
pink diamond ring.-
Laughter soon filled the room.
"Man, Lemira's so tacky, flaunting all those accessories like a nouveau riche."
"I bet Lemira's just showing off those expensive pieces on purpose, trying to make Evelina feel bad."
Lemira, unfazed, walked up to Evelina and said calmly, "Congratulations on finally becoming a Langston today."
In her previous life, Evelina's joining had marked the beginning of a nightmare for her.
No matter how much she tried to please or behave obediently, her brothers all favored Evelina, with Lucian even declaring he wished Evelina was their biological sister.
This time, Lemira vowed not to cling to such meaningless familial bonds.
Jealousy brewed in Evelina's heart as she saw the valuables on Lemira, though she managed to mask it with a composed expression.
Evelina shrank back a little, and then replied carefully, "Lemmy, I know you're upset, but don't worry, I won't compete with you for our brothers' affection. After all, I'll always be an outsider, and you're their real sister. How could I ever compare to you?"
As Evelina spoke, her eyes reddened. Lemira's lips curled into a sneer, thinking, "What a delicate wrench playing the innocent victim."
In her last life, Lemira was fooled by Evelina's harmless facade until the bitter end when she finally saw the woman's true colors. Caspian, witnessing this, quickly interjected, "Eve, don't cry. Who said you're an outsider? From today on, you're my true sister." Evelina lowered her eyelids, hiding the flash of triumph.
Lucian presented a box, "Eve, this is a gift for you."
Evelina feigned surprise, "Lucian, isn't this supposed to be Lemmy's gift? I couldn't possibly accept it!"
Lemira wasn't surprised to see the limited edition collectible inside the box.
In her past life, Lucian had "kindly" made a decision for her to give Evelina the collectible she had long awaited as an apology.
Lucian insisted, "Just take it. It's what she owes you."
Caspian, discontent, remarked, "Lemira, even though Eve isn't holding a grudge about you pushing her into the pool earlier, and Lucian has given her a gift on your behalf, where's your gesture of apology?" Lemira nodded, "I know, so I brought the gifts." She removed all her jewelry and laid each piece on a tray.
"This is the antique tiara from Asher."
"This is the emerald pendant from Lucian."
"This is the century-old ginseng from Rowan."
"This is the rare pink diamond ring from Caspian."
"This is the jade bracelet from Evander."
"This is the gold trophy from Alaric."
Placing them on the tray one by one, Lemira added, "These are all very important to me and as an apology, I believe they show my sincerity."
She had prepared these in anticipation of Caspian's questioning.
Ever since Evelina became part of the Langston family, her brothers hadn't given her any substantial gifts, just these valuables.
After all, she knew these items would eventually be reclaimed by her brothers under various pretexts to give to Evelina.
Caspian's face froze upon seeing the items on the tray. These were Lemira's most cherished possessions! How could she?
Lucian, with pressed lips, asked, "What are you implying?"
"Lucian, I've said these are all part of my apology. Caspian, do you think it's enough?" Lemira's demeanor utterly indifferent, her emotions unfazed.
Evelina, surprised by the items, wondered what Lemira was planning. Was this a strategic concession?
Evelina quickly spoke, "Lemmy, these gifts were given to you by our brothers; they're too precious, I can't accept them."
Caspian, furious, declared, "Exactly, these were gifts for you; how could you give them away?"Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Evelina's smile faltered slightly, and she bit her lip, "Right, Lemmy, I'm just an outsider, how could I deserve such gifts?"
Realizing his mistake, Caspian hurriedly explained, "Eve, that's not what I meant. I'll choose another gift for you. How could I let you accept a gift that's already been given to someone else?" Evelina's smile returned, "Thank you, Caspian."
Caspian's heart melted, thinking, "This is the demeanor of a sweet sister."
