Chapter 969
Since Gilbert was still catching some Z's, Sherilyn decided to swing by Jenna's room first.
Sophia was there, keeping Jenna company. She whispered as Sherilyn entered, "She's still out like a light, but she's been fussing a bit in her sleep."
The little munchkin was sprawled out on the bed, her arms thrown above her head, her chubby cheeks glistening where tears had wet her eyelashes. Sherilyn took the little girl's hand gently and sighed, "She must've gotten a scare."
"Yeah."
Next door, Gilbert's eyes flickered open.
"Mr. Gilbert, you're awake?" Charles, who had been on vigil by his bedside, stood up immediately, concerned. "How are you feeling?"
Gilbert frowned, glancing at his left arm, which was wrapped up tight in bandages.
Clearly, he was in a hospital, post-surgery.
He shook his head, trying to sit up, insisting on getting out of bed.
"What do you need, Mr. Gilbert?"
Charles tried to hold him back, "Should I get a nurse, or... Don't get up, please..."
"Tch!"
Gilbert scowled in annoyance, "I'm fine. How's Jenna? And Sherilyn? Are they here too? I need to check on them..."
"Mr. Gilbert, you've just come around from anesthesia; you really shouldn't be moving around just yet..."
"Move!"
"Mr. Gilbert..."
As Charles was caught in a tight spot, the door swung open, and there stood Sherilyn, like a beacon of hope.
"Sherilyn! You're here? Thank God, can you keep Mr. Gilbert in bed, please?"
Closing the door behind her, Sherilyn walked straight over.
"Sherilyn." Gilbert's voice wavered slightly as he met her gaze.
Before she even said a word, his defiance seemed to melt away.
"Did you... Did you come for me? How's Jenna? Weren't you with her? Is she done with her check-up? What did the doctor say?"
Sherilyn approached, standing right in front of him, silent for a moment.
His first concern upon waking was Jenna...
She reached out, steadying his arm, "You're not even six hours out of surgery. The anesthesia hasn't fully worn off; you need to stay in bed."
"?"
A little taken aback, Gilbert couldn't help but smile.
Sherilyn was looking out for him!
"Alright."
He settled back down without protest, "I'll listen to you..."C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
But then he attempted to rise again, "But Jenna..."
"Jenna's fine."
Sherilyn promptly pressed him back down, "She's next door, asleep. Hasn't woken up yet. Sophia's with her."
"Did they give her anything?"
"No." Sherilyn shook her head, "The doctor said to let her sleep it off naturally. She's already on medication, and too much could be harmful." "That makes sense..."
After inquiring more about the
et
check-up results, Gilbert finally felt at ease to lay back down. "I'll resta bit thenol want to be there whemshe wakes up."
"Okay."
Sherilyn let go of his arm, her eyes lingering on his bandaged hand. She frowned slightly, fetched a pillow, and carefully propped his arm on it.
"The doctor mentioned keeping your arm elevated."
It seemed he had knocked the pillow away when he woke up.
"Thanks." Gilbert settled back, watching her intently.
"Need a drink?"
Sherilyn pretended not to notice his gaze, "I'll get you some water. You must be thirsty after the anesthesia."
"Yeah, I could use a drink."
On the sidelines, Charles silently observed the scene, thinking to himself how Sherilyn's words were gospel to Gilbert. Water or poison he doubted Gilbert would care as long as Sherilyn was the one offering.

Realizing he was no longer needed, Charles quietly excused himself, leaving them to their moment. Returning with the water, Sherilyn's phone rang.
"Hello? Blake."
It was Blake.
"Sherilyn, what's going on? Why couldn't I reach you? Do you have any idea what time it is? Why aren't you at the set?"
