Chapter 969 Seeing through Life
Verda smiled, “Are you really that self-absorbed? Is it really worth it?”
Xander shrugged, “Since none of us are interested in each other, why bother acting like a gentleman? Living is already tiring enough, having to pretend every day would just make it more exhausting.”
Verda crossed her arms, intrigued, “Is this seeing through life?”
Xander set down his phone, “Not exactly, it’s just that I don’t see you as a woman, so I speak freely.”
Verda stayed silent.
This guy really dares to speak his mind.
Not afraid of scaring her off at all.
But Verda found Xander’s frankness interesting. It was much better than those playboys who pretend to be gentlemen when they clearly aren’t.
Quietly watching this man in front of her was indeed refreshing.
Verda propped up her chin, leaning in to look at him.
She looked straight at him.
Xander became uncomfortable, “What are you looking at?”
Verda raised her eyebrows, “Just checking if you’re good-looking. The lighting at the bar was too dim, couldn’t see clearly.”
“So what?” Xander chuckled.
“What if you’re good-looking, wouldn’t I be missing out on a handsome man?” Verda joked, “Can’t say you’re good-looking, at most, not bad-looking. Not my type.”
Xander laughed, “You’re not my type either.”
Verda leaned back in her chair, “Hey, you’re a man, shouldn’t you speak politely to a woman?”
“I’m not a gentleman.” Xander wiped his hands with a napkin and tossed it aside, looking at Verda, “Politeness is reserved for women we like, and since I don’t like you, why bother pretending.”
“Okay.” He stood up, “I have things to do, no time to banter with you.”
“I heard you came back for a wedding, now that the wedding is over and you aren’t working in the country, what could you possibly be busy with?” Verda sat still, but her eyes were on him.
Xander turned to look at her, truly unaware of the cruelty of reality, and the arrogant attitude of a spoiled rich girl.
Shaking his head helplessly, he said, “I may not be working, but no one supports me.”
He gestured, “I’m leaving.”
Verda asked, “Are you heading back?”
Without looking back, Xander replied, “Yes, planning to go back.”
Verda raised an eyebrow, “Which company are you with?”
Xander didn’t want anything to do with this pampered young lady, he couldn’t handle her.
He left without a word.
Verda said, “If you don’t tell me, how will I find out? If you don’t say, the more I want to know. You stay in this hotel, I can find out. It’s simpler to find out where you work, isn’t it?”
Xander glanced back at her, not saying anything.
He took out his phone as he rode the elevator.
Finding Elijah’s number, he stepped out of the elevator and dialed.
After a while, the phone was answered.
He said, “Mr. Silverton.”
A low hum came from the other end.
“This is Orion’s wedding over, I’m heading back first.”
Elijah must have wanted him to go back, after all, they were all in the country, with no one left at the company to handle business.
Before receiving Xander’s words, he received a call from Orion, saying they were having dinner together in the evening, a rare opportunity to get together. And as a newlywed couple, they invited them in that capacity.
At this point, it wasn’t right for Xander to leave. Even if he wanted to go back, it would have to be tomorrow.
“Orion is hosting dinner tonight, you should join. If you plan to leave, book a flight for tomorrow.”
Xander replied, “Alright, got it.”
Hanging up the phone, he sighed. For the first time, he felt quite lonely without someone by his side. Others had wives, but he didn’t.
It was better to work. Being idle was truly boring.
Standing at the elevator, returning to his room didn’t feel right, going to look for Evan wasn’t appropriate either, and bothering Orion would be even more foolish, especially when they were newlyweds, they would surely be enjoying each other’s company.
This single man had nowhere to go.
He decided to just go back to his room and sleep.
He headed towards his room.
At that moment, Evan and Sacha stepped out of their room.
Seeing Xander, they asked, “Have you eaten? If not, let’s go together?”
Xander replied, “I already ate, you guys go ahead.”
Xander swiped his card to open the door.
Just as he was about to enter the room, Evan stopped him, “Any plans today? If not, we can go out together?”
Xander asked, “Where to?”
“To…” Even hadn’t decided yet.
With Sacha pregnant, not every place was suitable for them to go.
He had just called Xander because he could tell he was bored, so he wanted to keep him from being alone in the hotel and possibly getting sick.
“How about a seaside excursion?” Sacha suggested, “The weather looks good, the sea views must be beautiful. We can rent a yacht, go out to sea, and have seafood. Sounds good, right?”© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Xander said, “That’s a good suggestion.”
Evan thought for a moment, “Sounds good.”
This was a more suitable option, no need for intense activity, enjoying nature was the best way to relax.
So, after finishing their meal, Evan and Sacha drove to the seaside.
Xander drove in front, Evan and Sacha followed behind, displaying affection.
Xander kept his eyes on the road, but their conversation still reached his ears.
He clicked his tongue, “You guys are doing this on purpose, definitely on purpose. Saying you want to hang out with me, but actually trying to provoke me.”
Sacha rested on Evan’s shoulder, addressing Xander, “We’re a married couple, isn’t affection normal? If we weren’t affectionate, why would we get married?”
Xander had no rebuttal, as what she said was true.
Xander usually drove fast, but today, with Sacha in the car, he drove more steadily.
Just slightly slower, but an hour later, they arrived at the seaside.
This was a developed coastal area with several yachts parked nearby.
Xander went to rent a yacht.
Most of them were private yachts, but there were also some available for rent.
While speaking with the rental personnel, Verda appeared behind Xander.
“Hey, I thought you were leaving? How come you’re here? Were you deliberately avoiding me?” Verda teased.
Xander turned to look at Verda.
Slightly surprised, “Are you following me?”
Verda replied, “Who do you think you are? Me following you? You’re not that special.”
She pointed, “That’s my yacht over there, we’re having a party, want to join?”
Being alone was fine for Xander, but with Evan and Sacha, it was different.
Sacha was now a priority for protection.
A party wouldn’t be suitable for a pregnant woman.
So, he firmly declined, “No, you guys have fun.”
