BOOK 2 CHAPTER 44
Harriette's POV
I made a terrible mistake tonight.
That shouldn't have happened. I shouldn't have shifted to my Lan like that and the shittiest thing was, I didn't even know how I did it
That had only happened once and it was the day I first shifted into my wolf. I tried shifting back to a human as per my tutor's instruction but instead, I shifted into a Lycan.
The tutor was killed almost immediately for witnessing what happened and guess who was forced to kill him.
Met
The King wasn't even aware such a thing happened. I was told never to tell him. He was only informed I'd shifted and he was excited it finally happened since I was what they called, a late shifter in the werewolf world.
I shifted for the first time when I was fifteen. Other werewolves shifted as early as ten, some even eight years old.
I tried researching what I was but I got nothing. I was told I was an abomination in the werewolf world.
When I realized there was another me called Thorne, I packed up my bags and left. I wasn't a fit for that palace. Fuck! I didn't fit anywhere. Not even in my own pack
Someone kicked my door open as I tried pulling a bandage around my broken arm. I didn't need to look up. It was Mika
"Permit me to address you as a friend and not as my Alpha,"
She demanded. She was angry and I could sense it from the way her eyes were so intense, burning with barely contained fury.
I growled. "Freedom of speech is allowed, Mika, but trust me, I might tear your mouth apart because of what you end up saying
She hissed
"What the fuck did you think you were doing? Do you know how dangerous what you did tonight was? You could've gotten yourself killed. How did I not even know a stupid fight would be happening?"
I frowned. Did she really not see me shift into a Lycan? Why wasn't she talking about that?
"I commanded everyone not to tell you,"
I told her.Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
She nodded. "Really? Okay, that's cool. That makes sense. So why did you do that?"
She asked again.
"What exactly?" I asked.
That Thorne shit. I know you allowed him to take charge of your body. You've been slipping out of control these days but
1
you've been in charge and I can't find a simple explanation as to why Thorne was there tonight and the only thing I could come up with was that you did that to yourself. The stupid contacts you were wearing gave you away. Thorne is dangerous but he's not that smart,"
Shit! She had it all figured out. It wasn't just her. Harriette too.
The exchange we shared right in the ring before I ran out was breathtaking. She looked at me as though I was the most important thing to her. When she touched my finger, I felt this sudden urge to mark her right there.
Control was the only thing that made me run out of the arena.
"Giving control to Thorne was dangerous,"
She repeated.
"I only needed an outlet and he does too. I promised him Alpha Darius blood and I did but then, he wanted more and I couldn't let him,"
"Stop hurting yourself, Rowan,"
I stared at her. Tm allowed to," I answered.
"No! No! You shouldn't do that to yourself. It's not right,
"It might not be right but I'm allowed to. Did you see what I shifted into out there? Can you explain to me how that was possible? You've seen me shift into my wolf countless times, now tell me, why do I get to shift to that thing too?"
She closed her eyes for a few seconds. I don't know, Rowan. I think you should ask your father. It might be a family thing"
I chuckled sadly. "Yeah, right."
"Rowan, I don't know what happened to you at the palace. I can only guess but you need to forgive yourself first so you can forgive your father and then, stop doing this to yourself,"
You aren't making sense,"
"Why are you pushing your mate away?" She asked.
I shook my head. “I don't want them here anymore, I spat. I couldn't tell her the truth.
"Bullshit. I call that bullshit. You're the most sensible man I've met. You wouldn't make such a big decision without having a
reason,
"I have no reason.
Would you please.
"Get out," I said in a low, sinister voice.
She was pushing too hard and I hated that. If she pushed any further, I would be forced to tell her what Harriette did and I didn't want to do that. Rowan,
"GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM. DON'T MAKE ME HURT YOU, I threatened.
Threats were the only way to get rid of Mika most times and it worked each time.
"Fine, I'll leave. If you need help, call me. I'll get the doctor,"

She pointed at the blood on the bandages I dropped on my study table. The wounds were alteanup There was no
need to call for a doctor.
"Harriette is outside. She's waiting to see you,"
She announced..
"I don't want to see her. Tell her to go home."
Mika glared at me before nodding. She finally left and I was alone in the darkness.
I could hear footsteps pacing outside my door. I wanted to check but out of fear that it could be Harriette, I stopped myself
There was no way I would get involved with my potential murderer. It was better for us to stay apart.
I wasn't just scared of her murdering me, I was scared of me killing her in the process of her trying to kill me. If she died by my hands, I would be forced to live a life of sorrow, pain, and unending self-guilt. I'd only known her for a few days but it felt as though I'd known her all my life.
It was better to cut her off before I found it impossible to live without her.
Suddenly, l'heard a sharp sound on my window. As though someone was throwing stones at the window.
1 frowned.
I stood up and opened the window, It was Harriette.
She was standing in the middle of the road. Once she saw me, she dropped the stones she'd hidden in her clothes. There were plenty. Thank goodness I opened my window: she would have broken it down with those stones.
She waved at me. I couldn't wave back. Instead, I frowned at her.
She touched her stomach and pointed at me. I shook my head. I wasn't hungry. She began making funny faces and deflated when she realized I didn't laugh.
That was probably the only funny thing to me. I walked away from the window and picked up my clothes to meet up with
her.
But by the time I got to the spot where she was standing, she was gone.
I guess that was destiny's way of telling me to let her go.
