Bedmates Soulmates

CHAPTER 48

Truth or Dare

Truth Or Dare

'Maybe later.' Kira felt a little self-conscious about singing in front of others.

Try this seaweed chicken, Lexi nudged the snacks platter towards Kira. 'Don't waste the opportunity. It's not every time that we get the boss to pick up the tab. Speaking of which..."

She leaned in and whispered in Kira's ear, "You and Paul know each other?"

"Mr Flenderson? He was my interviewer."

I meant before that."

"No. Why?"

Lexi shrugged. Just curious. We thought you might've known him privately. That's why he gave you the job.

"Ahem! Kira coughed to try to cover Lexi's voice, even though she knew Paul was out of earshot.

The manager saw Kira glancing in his direction and waved from the other end of the room. Kira quickly looked away.

Lexi lowered her voice and continued, 'We've seen Flenderson around back when he was the HR manager. He likes to hide in his office and clocks out on the dot. But he offered to pay for dinner and -karaoke tonight and tagged along. I was just wondering if you are the reason."

Kira sipped her lemon tea. 'He has just taken over the sales team. Maybe he wants to bond with his new colleagues.'

'Could be.' Lexi drained her glass and took Kira's hand 'Come on, there's no fun sitting by yourself. If you don't want to sing, at least join us for a game.

Six of her colleagues were sitting on the carpeted floor around a coffee table.

'What game are we playing?' Kira asked as she sat down.

'Truth or Dare,' Lexi said. "You played before?"

'Of course, back in high school.'

'Okay. As the newbie, you get the spin the bottle."

Paul got up from his sofa and crouched behind it, dialling a number on his phone.

It took a while for the call to go through.

'Paul?' a man's voice answered,

'Mr McCarthy, it's me."

Austyn raised an eyebrow.

Why was the temp cales group leader calling him after work?

""What is it?"

'It's about Miss Hewitt. You asked me to keep you posted. We had dinner-Korean barbecue. Right now, we're at a karaoke lounge with colleagues from the sales team." Austyn heard the cacophony on the other end of the line.

Someone was butchering "Love The Way You Lie.'

A man's voice shouted 'Another round!'

Glasses clinked.

Hands slapping on thighs.

And raucous laughter.

Austyn held the phone further away from his ear. 'I was talking about when she's at the office. I don't need a blow-by-blow account of her activities off work! "Oh, Paul grimaced.

He couldn't believe he'd sucked up to the boss in the wrong way.

'Sorry, Mr McCarthy, I thought-'

"What's she doing now? Austyn cut him off.

"Since you've already called me, you might as well tell me."

"Oh, um... Paul rose and peeked over the sofa. 'They're playing Truth or Dare now."

"Go sit near them. Don't hang up the phone."

"Yes, Mr McCarthy."

*So the boss likes to snoop on his employees!' Paul thought, laughing in his heart. Austyn

had one hand on his phone and the other around Kayleigh's waist.

The inebriated actress was sitting next to him and leaning on his shoulder

She hooked an arm around his neck. 'Austyn...

He gave her a nudge, but she held on tight and refused to let go.

'I don't feel so good,' she whimpered as she buried her face in his chest. 'Take me home..."

'Where's your assistant?

'I don't know.' Kayleigh wrapped both arms around him 'Please, will you take me home? I can't walk." Austyn scowled. Kayleigh did look pale.

Avery Maguire watched the two from the sofa opposite.

"Tsk tsk,' he smiled. 'What a busy man. Are we still going to talk business? Or you want to take your pretty little lady home?"

Austyn pried Kayleigh's arms off him and leaned her back against the sofa.

She was really out of it.

He couldn't just leave her like this.

Austyn picked up the glass of red wine on the table in front of him.

He swirled it but didn't drink.

Putting on his Bluetooth earpiece, he listened to the hubbub on the other end of the line.

Truth di Dure

Austyn draped one arm over the sofa's back and stretched out his long legs, looking every bit like the pampered young heir living in clover.

Avery clicked his tongue again. "Look at you, with your ten-thousand-dollar suit and handcrafted Testoni leather shoes. Hard to imagine the same man used to crawl through muddy swamps and use a machine gun as his pillow." Austyn squinted at the man.

He picked up the contract and leafed through it. "If you're wondering if I'd gotten rusty, we can go to the shooting range someday and test it out."

Avery raised both palms in mock surrender. 'No thanks. I've no interest in getting my ass handed to me by the army's sharpshooting champion. You know, no one has broken your grand treble record yet." 'Smart man."

Avery glared at Austyn, who ignored him.

The M Group's president has his eyes on the contract, but his attention was on his earpiece.

Kira's soft voice came through crystal clear.

It was her turn in Truth or Dare.

Kira was in two minds.

The green beer bottle was pointed at her.

If she chose 'Dare,' what if they asked her to kiss a random stranger?

If she chose "Truth,' what if they probed her with questions that were too personal?

In the end, she went with the lesser evil. 'Truth.

Farrah immediately asked, "When did you lose your virginity? We want details!"
