"Send me a picture of what you're wearing right now."Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Just reading the message made Jamie's skin crawl. Ben was checking up on her but Winnie was right beside her. "Hold on, I'll take one once I'm back in my room." Jamie clutched her phone and got up, intending to head upstairs. Winnie, not yet finished chatting, instinctively wanted to follow her. Meanwhile, Jamie's phone kept buzzing non-stop. "Hey, who's messaging you so much? Could it be... do I have a future brother-in-law in the picture?" Winnie's eyes sparkled. She truly wished her sister would find someone to love and care for her. Jamie had taken on so much responsibility for so long. Jamie forced a small smile. "Who'd want someone like me right now?"
She had nothing but only a sick son with expensive medical bills. What kind of man would marry her for that?
"You never know! If someone truly loves you, he won't care about your situation. Just look at me and Jack! He has a house and a car, and I came in with nothing. By those standards, I'm way out of his league." Winnie was always quick to use herself as an example, hoping to show that Jamie could find happiness too.
"I managed to meet such a great guy, so why wouldn't you? You need to have a little faith in yourself," Winnie reassured her over and over. "Believe me, you deserve the best things in this world."
But the more Winnie said this, the heavier Jamie's heart felt. Her sweet, naive sister saw everything in such rosy terms.
Finding a man this ideal was like reaching for the stars. The "Jack" Winnie knew was nothing but a facade crafted by Ben, everything meticulously tailored to match Winnie's every expectation. Suddenly, Jamie's phone started ringing. Ben, apparently losing patience, was calling directly.
"Who is it? Whoever it is can't even wait a few minutes! They must be really into you." Winnie's curiosity only grew as she tried to sneak a look at the caller ID on Jamie's screen.
Jamie quickly hid the phone behind her back. "It's no one, just a spam call."
"Oh, I don't buy that! Since when does a spam call ring you up so persistently?" Winnie teased, feigning annoyance. "We're sisters! Plus, I'm already married. I'm not about to steal your man. Why are you being so secretive?"
Jamie was at a loss for words. She muted the phone and lied, saying the call had already ended. "I'm serious It's just telemarketers. My number got leaked, and now I get nonstop calls about insurance and payday loans."
Winnie studied Jamie's face for a moment, searching for any hint of bashful excitement. When she found none, she seemed to relent. "Fine But if you do meet someone, you'd better bring him to meet me first. I'll make sure he's a decent guy. No way I'm letting you fall for the wrong person again."
Just then, Winnie's own phone rang. She glanced at the screen and instantly brightened, happily answering, "Hey, hubby, what's up?" The only person she would call "hubby" was Ben.
Jamie's eyes widened, her hands trembling uncontrollably behind her back.
