Chapter 473
Everett's brow furrowed, "Even if there's nothing romantic going on?"
Alex replied, "You have to be clear about it. Convincing your partner is crucial, you know? People can't read minds." Everett pressed his lips together and, without further questions, instructed, "Check on Selena's flight right away." "Got it."
The black Bentley sped off like a cheetah, quickly disappearing down the road.
Alex was on it in no time; about half an hour later, she called back.
Everett, wearing a Bluetooth earpiece, answered, "Go ahead."
"Mr. Everett, I've confirmed that her flight is set for ten..."
Just as the car approached an intersection, a massive truck from the right came hurtling toward them, ignoring the red light, and showed no signs of stopping. There was a thunderous crash.
The truck slammed into Everett's car with a deafening noise, tires screeching as it was dragged a good distance, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.
The impact wedged Everett against the crushed driver's seat, his forehead hitting the window hard, blood instantly streaming down.
Alex was frozen with fear, almost unable to breathe, "Mr. Everett? Mr. Everett... What happened? Mr. Everett... Please, don't scare me... Mr. Everett!" Silence hung heavily for what felt like an eternity.
Alex, her limbs weak but her mind racing, guessed it was a car accident. Luckily, the car had a tracking system; she needed to call for an ambulance immediately!
She frantically coordinated the rescue efforts, never daring to hang up, continuously calling out to Everett.
Thank goodness she wasn't in the hospital room when she made the call; if Josh had heard, it would've been a nightmare. Eventually, after what seemed like ages, Everett, having fought through a wave of dizziness, finally murmured.
"Alex..."
"Mr. Everett! Are you okay?" Alex clutched the phone tighter, her voice shaky, "Hang in there, the ambulance is on its way."
Everett's vision was all shadows, like
he was teetering on the edge of a cliff, using almost his last breath to issue his final command, "You... you have to tell Selena, I can explain everything about Margot, tell her... not...
not to leave..."
"Mr. Everett, this isn't the time for talking!"
"Do it now... go!"
Even in such a weakened state, his commanding presence was unyielding.
Alex, feeling helpless, could only agree, "Alright, I get it, I'll tell her. Mr. Everett, you have to hang in there!"novelbin
After disconnecting, she jumped in her car, racing toward the accident site, her hands shaking as she dialed Selena's number.
She and Selena got along well
enough, so there was little chance her call would be ignored. Selena was always straightforward with her feelings.
Sure enough, the call was answered quickly, though Selena didn't speak, her light breathing was the only sound.
Alex, no time for hesitation, quickly relayed the urgent news.
"Selena, Mr. Everett's been in a
serious accident. It happened on his way to the airport. He wanted me to tell you, you're worried about his relationship with Margot, he's ready to explain everything. He hopes you won't leave and will give him another chance!"
